About Zante (Zakynthos) Island

Zante or Zakynthos is an island rich in many hues of green, it is surrounded by many smaller islands, and bathed in constant sunshine all year round.

It is appropriate then, that one of the many names that was given to the island by its conquerors was “Fior di Levante” which means Flower of the East. Home of Hugo Foskolos, Andreas Kalvos, George Tertsetis and others, such as the national poet of Greece Dionysios Solomos. You can find the main port in Zante (Zakynthos) Town, where its visitors can find everything such as souvenir shops,travel agencies, banks, super markets and much more. One can also visit many of the important historical sites, including the Venetian Castle, St.Dennis Church, the Byzantine Museum, and the Solomos Museum. Just outside Zakynthos town is a small village called Bohali. There you can see panoramic views of the beautiful island of Zante and enjoy the famous Cantades (Traditional Zakynthian Songs) and visit Lofos Strani, the site where Dionysios Solomos wrote the National Anthem of Greece (“Hymn to freedom”).
